8:30 A.M.: Before
Jacqueline's room before the makeover. "I have ideas. It's just hard to follow through on them," Jacqueline says, "Who has time to shop?"

8:35 A.M.: What Jacqueline Is Thinking
• I have pieces I've picked up on my travels and things my family has given me, but the room still feels a little sparse.
• Lighting is a challenge. I'll admit, one standing lamp is probably not enough.

8:39 A.M.: The Consultation
"I've been meaning to buy a headboard, but haven't gotten around to it. It takes me a long time to commit to a piece of furniture," Jacqueline says.
"Jacqueline needs real bedside tables. A headboard. And more light!" Amanda says.

8:43 A.M.: What Amanda Is Thinking
• The room has good bones, but I don't think the space is being used as well as it could be.
• Each object is separate. The room doesn't read as a whole.

Let's relocate these. Why draw attention to the radiator? The radiator cover has become her display space, because she has nowhere else to put things. Not right.

I'd like to see a softer color on the walls. The yellow paint was a good try, but it has no relationship to anything else.

Like this sandy bisque, the color of milky coffee.
Behind the Scenes
When Nisbet decided that a more neutral paint color would work better in the bedroom (and relate more smoothly to the adjacent living room), she knew exactly which color to choose — Benjamin Moore's Richmond Bisque, one of her standys. And she brought in her own painters — Eddy Interiors — because she could rely on them to do the job in two hours and be gone.
